3/26/2015 - DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz -- Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Mark A. Welsh III visited Davis-Monthan Air Force Base March 25.
Welsh made stops at several organizations including the 355th Fighter
Wing, the 354th Fighter Squadron, the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and
Regeneration Group and also held an all-call at the 755th Aircraft
Maintenance Squadron hangar.
During the all-call, Welsh presented Master Sgt. Matthew Garcia, 55th
Rescue Squadron special mission aviator, with the Soldier's medal for
his act of heroism that saved the lives of two pilots who were injured
after landing their helicopter on an improvised explosive device in
Afghanistan.
Following the medal presentation, Welsh spoke to more than 800 Airmen in
attendance about the importance of watching out for each other, how
each individual Airman is critical to the Air Force mission and thanked
Airmen and their families for their service.
"I get the privilege of traveling all over the world to meet Airmen and
seeing what they do everywhere," Welsh said. "And I'll tell you, they're
great everywhere."
