On August 22, 2021, Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III spoke with Canadian Minister of National Defence Harjit S. Sajjan about ongoing operations in Afghanistan.

The two leaders underscored the critical importance of close, continuous coordination between the U.S. Department of Defense and the Canadian Department of National Defence to ensure the safe transit of American and Canadian personnel and citizens from Kabul. 

Secretary Austin thanked Minister Sajjan for Canada’s leadership in accepting vulnerable Afghans nationals for resettlement.
