2/21/2014 - JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Col. Carolina Evernham assumed command of the 315th Operations Group during a ceremony in the base theater here Feb. 21.
As Evernham took command of the 315th OG, Lt. Col. Russell Catanach
returned to his original role of deputy commander of the Group.
"To be coming to this great wing is such a fantastic opportunity,"
Evernham said at her ceremony. "I've known about the 315th for a long
time. I'm very aware of your sterling reputation and I'm impressed at
all you have accomplished."
Col. James Fontanella, 315th Airlift Wing commander, told Evernham that
she was taking the reigns of "the single most effective operations group
in [Air Force Reserve Command] - period."
Evernham, a Reserve Officer Training Corps graduate from the University
of Arizona, comes to the 315th AW from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base,
N.C., where she commanded the 916th OG.
A 33-year Air Force veteran, Evernham has logged more than 2,000 flight hours on the KC-135 Stratotanker.
"As you all know, we cannot accomplish our mission without the rest of
the wing and the rest of Team Charleston," Evernham added. She also
acknowledged support of family members "in enabling us to do what we
do."
