USS GEORGE H.W. BUSH, At Sea (NNS) -- The George H.W. Bush
Carrier Strike Group (GHWB CSG) relieved the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike
Group (HST CSG) of its duties in the U.S. 5th Fleet Area of Responsibility
(AOR) March 24.
The HST CSG deployed July 22, 2013, and since then has
conducted maritime security operations, theater security cooperation actions,
and joint military exercises with regional partners in U.S 5th and 6th Fleet
AORs.
"The Harry S. Truman Strike Group has done an exemplary
job over these past eight months," said Rear Adm. DeWolfe Miller,
commander of CSG 2. "They've been out here for a long time and we are
excited for them to get back home to their loved ones on time."
Following the turnover, the Truman Strike Group will depart
the 5th Fleet AOR and return to its homeport of Norfolk, Va.
Commanded by Rear Adm. DeWolfe Miller, GHWB CSG is comprised
of the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 8, Destroyer
Squadron (DESRON) 22, guided-missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea (CG 58),
guided-missile destroyer USS Truxtun (DDG 103), and guided-missile destroyer
USS Roosevelt (DDG 80).
The George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group is deployed in
support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation
efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet AOR.
