Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron Command Master Chief Reliev

NORFOLK (NNS) -- Cmdr. Peter Schnappauf III, commanding officer, Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 70 relieved Command Master Chief (CMDCM) Roy B. Carter of his duties as the squadron's command master chief June 24 due to Carter's unsatisfactory performance as the senior enlisted leader over an extended period of time.

Carter has been reassigned to Commander, Helicopter Maritime Strike Wing Atlantic in Mayport, Florida.

HSM-70, based in Jacksonville, Florida, is part of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 8 forward deployed with George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group conducting maritime security operations in the 5th Fleet Area of Operations.

CMDCM Kenneth Alvardo, command master chief for CVW-8 will assume Carter's duties until a permanent relief is assigned.

HSM 70's mission is to provide an MH-60R "Sea Hawk" helicopter squadron to operate from aircraft carriers and to provide detachments to air capable carrier strike group surface combatants.
