107th Airlift Wing
5/28/2014 - NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. -- Members of the New York Air National Guard's 107th Airlift Wing participated in the annual parade here Memorial Day weekend.
A small group of Airmen gathered to participate and commemorate the
service of men and women who died serving our nation in uniform.
They fell into a flight formation and took the path down Pine Avenue here where on-lookers cheered for them.
"This means much more to me now that I wear a uniform," said Airman 1st
Class Toria Distefano, a new member to the Wing. "I just got back from
[technical] school and it is a good way to get involved in the community
and be a representative of the unit."
The parade ended at Hyde Park and a ceremony took place at the Veteran's
Memorial. The 107th Wing Commander, Colonel John Higgins, was the guest
speaker at the event.
"This year on Memorial Day, let us remember the men and women who laid
down their lives for this great country," said Higgins. "Keep all of our
finest young American's who are still serving in harm's way in your
thoughts and prayers."
Maj. Brian Dalporto, a 107th member as well as the chief of police for Niagara Falls, also spoke at the event.
