8/5/2014 - ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga.  -- The mayor of Warner Robins visited here Aug. 5 to tour an Air Force E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System aircraft and learn about the mission of Team JSTARS.

Upon arrival to the base, the Hon. Randy Toms, mayor of Warner Robins and Air Force veteran, was greeted by Col. Kevin Clotfelter, 116th Air Control Wing commander, and Col. Henry Cyr, 461st Air Control Wing commander.

Toms received an orientation briefing and gained an overall picture of the JSTARS mission and the unique capabilities of the platform. Following the briefing, the mayor experienced first-hand what flying a JSTARS aircraft is like through a 30-minute flight simulation.

"I am so impressed with the knowledge and dedication of each of these Airmen," said Toms "They have such a sense of pride in what they do, along with their commitment to the local community, nation and word. It's humbling."

The mayor concluded his visit with a tour of E-8C JSTARS and took the time to speak with the Airmen who operate and maintain the aircraft.

"This has been an unbelievable experience," Toms said. "Going from the briefing, to the flight simulation, to touring the aircraft gives me a better understanding of the JSTARS mission as a whole."

Toms retired from the Warner Robins Fire Department after 27 years and was elected as mayor in December 2013.
