WASHINGTON, March 11, 2015 – Officials from the U.S. Defense Department and China’s Defense Ministry held the inaugural Asia-Pacific Security Dialogue here yesterday.

The meeting was first announced by then-Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel during his April visit to Beijing, Pentagon officials said.

Ambassador David B. Shear, assistant secretary of defense for Asian and Pacific security affairs, led the U.S. delegation, and Rear Adm. Guan Youfei, director of the Defense Ministry’s foreign affairs office, led the Chinese delegation.

During the full-day dialogue, Shear and Guan discussed security interests of mutual concern, officials said.
