Navy Announces 2011 Calendar for America

From Navy Office of Community Outreach

WASHINGTON (NNS) -- The Navy announced the 2011 Calendar for America, which sets forth nearly 100 large-scale Navy outreach events across America, Jan. 20.

The calendar includes 21 Navy weeks in cities across the country that do not have a significant everyday Navy presence.

The calendar also includes traditional fleet weeks in locations such as New York and San Francisco; significant diversity events in which the Navy will participate; Centennial of Naval Aviation commemorative events; Blue Angels air shows; ship commissioning ceremonies; and large-scale recruiting events.

Communicating the Navy's mission and contribution to national security throughout the country is a particular and unique challenge because the Navy's primary fleet concentration areas are on both coasts. All events on the calendar are designed to show Americans the investment they have made in their Navy, help them gain a better understanding of the Navy's critical mission and showcase the Navy's talented people.

"Our outreach throughout the year helps all Americans better understand the value of their Navy and the service of the men and women of our country who are Sailors. The events we support and the relationships we build with communities across the nation allow us to share the story of America's Navy in a meaningful and memorable way," said Adm. Gary Roughead, chief of naval operations.
