AFGSC to hold NC3 General Officer Steering Group, Industry Day

Air Force Global Strike Command Public Affairs

12/5/2014 - BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- Air Force Global Strike Command holds a Nuclear Command, Control and Communications General Officer Steering Group Dec. 9 at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana.

"The purpose of the NC3 General Officer Steering Group is to make a strategic assessment of NC3 sustainment issues across the nuclear enterprise," said Capt. Kandi Allred, lead program element manager with the AFGSC Communications Directorate. "This forum gives the NC3 stakeholders  the opportunity to address challenges facing aging systems and infrastructure.  It also allows the executive council to maximize limited NC3 resources through a mutually agreed upon, ordered set of priorities, goals, and objectives."

This steering group is a follow-on to an NC3 Symposium held in April, and is designed to shape the strategic vision of the nuclear command, control and communications enterprise in support of the Chief of Staff of the Air Force's number one mission priority, Allred said.

General officers and equivalent representatives from the Department of Defense, U.S. Strategic Command, Defense Information Systems Agency and AFGSC's sister commands and others will be present at the meeting.

"The executive council's focus will be to provide strategic level guidance for the NC3 enterprise. This guidance will be used to ensure the effective and efficient use of limited resources," she said.

Following the GOSG, the Command will hold an industry day in conjunction with the Cyber Innovation Center on Dec. 10 at the Bossier Civic Center in Bossier City, Louisiana.

"This is the first NC3 GOSG and industry day for AFGSC," said A.G. Hatcher Jr., Director of Communications for AFGSC. "With the theme, 'Innovation in Nuclear Communications,' the event's purpose is to seek industry and academia collaboration for new methods to deliver resilient, responsive and cost-effective nuclear communications capabilities to the warfighter."

"It's pretty exciting and the team has done a great job bringing nuclear enterprise leaders together from across DoD at this level to address key issues," Hatcher said.
