Force commander, awards U.S. Air Force Capt. Matthew Carlisle, 31st
Rescue Squadron operations flight commander, the Distinguished Flying
Cross with valor at the Officer’s Club on Kadena Air Base, Japan, July
10, 2013. Carlisle was awarded for his heroic actions during a
seven-hour, 320-mile rescue mission under direct enemy gunfire in
Afghanistan, Aug. 4, 2012. During the mission, Carlisle aided three
