Oklahoma City Reads Names of Fallen Heroes and Honors Post 9/11 Veterans in Parade

Oklahoma City (March 16, 2012) This Saturday at 10am on the south stairs of the Oklahoma City capitol building, grateful citizens, families, veterans and active military personnel will gather for a ceremonial Reading of the Names of Oklahoma's Fallen Heroes from the post-911 wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

A single toll of a bell will follow the name of each fallen hero. The names are expected to be read by Senator Al McAffrey, who provided crucial help in organizing the event. Other expected readers include Representative Richard Morrissette and other active members of the Oklahoma community.

The event is being organized by volunteers of the Welcome Home Foundation, the grassroots group of organizers who brought America it's first Welcome Home the Heroes Event in St. Louis in January to celebrate the service and sacrifice of our post-911 warriors and welcome them back to the communities who need their know-how.

Stated Major General (Ret.) Rita Aragon, Oklahoma Secretary of Veterans Affairs, "Oklahomans are extremely patriotic, and have a very special awareness of how significant it is every time our troops deploy and return. Whenever a private citizen steps forward to make a special effort to say thank you for the service, I think it’s one more chance for our men and women to feel that gratitude and support.”

After the Reading, please join the 30th Annual St Patrick's Parade, which is making very special room this year to honor Oklahoma's returning heroes. For more information or to donate to veterans service groups, please visit www.americaforvets.org and click on Oklahoma.
