ATLANTIC OCEAN (NNS) -- The commander of Carrier Strike
Group (CSG) 4 visited the guided-missile destroyer USS Ramage (DDG 61) Sept. 6
during a training exercise in preparation for an upcoming deployment.
During the course of his visit, crew members provided Rear
Adm. Richard Butler a tour of Ramage's controlling stations to witness
first-hand how Ramage executes various tactical missions leveraged by the
exercise.
"It is great for the crew to have an opportunity to
demonstrate their skill sets for senior decision makers," said Cmdr. Joel
Lang, Ramage's commanding officer. "This complex exercise has the entire
ship focused on improving our proficiency, and I am proud that Rear Adm. Butler
got to see us in action."
Butler also took time to visit with officers in the
Wardroom.
"Having someone as high up in the chain of command as
Rear Adm. Butler come and see Ramage in action shows the crew that what they do
has value," said acting Command Master Chief Dan Gee. "It helps
bridge the gap between the admiralty and the deck plate Sailors."
Ramage is underway participating in a composite training
unit exercise with the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group.
