1/24/2013 - JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas -- The president has nominated the 59th Medical Wing vice commander for appointment to the rank of brigadier general.
Col James E. McClain, a 30-year Air Force veteran who initially came up
the ranks as an enlisted Airman, is currently charged with managing
deployed and in-garrison health care, as well as the graduate medical
education and clinical research needed to enhance Air Force readiness.
The 59th MDW is the Air Force's largest medical wing, composed of seven
groups with a staff of nearly 6,010 military, civilian, contract
employees, residents and students.
"Colonel McClain will be an exceptional general officer and Chief of the
Air Force Biomedical Science Corps," said Maj. Gen. Byron C. Hepburn,
59th Medical Wing commander. "Jim's dedication to our country, and his
commitment to providing excellence in health care for our combat
warriors and beneficiaries across the globe is unparalleled."
McClain's nomination to general officer will now go to the U.S. Senate for confirmation.
