7/16/2014 - MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- An Airman from Mountain Home Air Force Base was hand selected to join the ranks of the Air Force's premier performing arts group, Tops In Blue.

Senior Airman Eric Rouse, 366th Civil Engineer Squadron electronic systems journeyman, represents the Mountain Home with his experience as an electrician and knowledge of sound boards to assist this year's TIB tour.

"When people are focusing on the stage and the performers, the real magic is happening behind the scenes," Rouse said. "Personally, I've always been more interested in who is controlling the sound or running the lights. It's kind of the unknown aspect of it, and I'm excited to be a part of it."

Providing electrical support allows Rouse to perform in a very unique way and his leadership is excited that he was given the opportunity.

"With an electrical background, he had the experience they were looking for," said Master Sgt. Kelly Rydell, 366th CES first sergeant. "His contributions will really help the team reach their full potential."

Rouse has been interested in TIB for years, but it wasn't until their tour stop here last month that he came face to face with his dream.

"When they arrived my team was on call. We were helping them with the electrical aspect when I learned then there was a position open," Rouse said. "I had previous experience helping out at different events around base and know my way around a sound board, so that definitely got me thinking about applying."

After receiving a recommendation to the TIB coordinator, Rouse submitted an application and was notified of his selections days later.

"I was really excited and nervous when I found out I was selected," Rouse explains. "Officially being announced by my commander and shirt as the newest member of TIB has made it more real, but it's also a little unbelievable."

Rouse is the second individual from MHAFB to be picked up for Tops In Blue this year. In February, Senior Airman Myra Hernandez, 366th Medical Support Squadron nutritional medical technician, was notified that she had been selected to perform.

"Out of the whole Tops In Blues team, we now have two individuals representing our wing, that's awesome," said Rydell. "Whether it's coming from on stage, or behind-the-scenes, it's going to make people take notice of all the talent that's coming from Mountain Home."
