Sgt. The six pallets of medical supplies, including a defibrillator, diapers, and a tabletop microscope, were donated through the non-profit organization MEDWISH International to the Helping Hands Ministry (Las Tres Rosas) non-governmental organization (NGO) in Honduras. The supplies and equipment will be distributed by the NGO to three hospitals in Honduras: The Santa Rose Lima Medical Center, Nuevo Paraiso; Hospital Torax, Tegucigalpa; and Hospital San Lorenzo, San Lorenzo. The supplies were sent to Honduras through the Denton Program, which allows private U.S. citizens and organizations to use space available on U.S. military cargo planes to transport humanitarian goods to approved countries in need. Approved countries include those that are supported by Department of Defense transportation services, and where civil systems, local infrastructure and the supply chain will support immediate onward distribution of the commodities. The program is jointly administered by the U.S. Agency for International Development, the Department of State, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, and the Department of Defense. "These were supplies that were donated, and then shipped on the C-17 on a space-available basis," said U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Nicholas Mizzoni. "This is precious cargo for Honduras." 612 ABS Airmen were able to assist with the transfer of cargo due to the training mission of the C-17. In total, 612 ABS Airmen offloaded 10 pallets, amounting to more than 30,000 pounds of total cargo, and transferred more than 30,000 pounds of fuel to the aircraft.
